Using my iDisk

Sometimes it’s necessary to exchange numerous files while working on any given project.  Sometimes it’s not always convenient to burn CD’s or email large files or a large number of files and that is why I use MobileMe’s iDisk.  iDisk is a virtual disk on the Web that uses the WebDav (Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning) protocol to collaborate and exchange files.  I may ask you on occasion to download or upload something to the Public Folder on my iDisk.  If so here are the instructions for connecting to my iDisk.

Connecting to my iDisk’s Public folder

Using a web browser

You can open a MobileMe member’s Public folder to see and copy files. If the member has set access privileges to read-write, you can also add and remove files. You need to know the member’s public password in order to read from or write to the folder.

  1. In your web browser, go to: http://public.me.com/eddieebeling
  2. If my Public folder is protected, enter a name of “public” (all lowercase) and public password (which I have given you). You need to know my public password in order to read from or write to the folder.

Using Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 or later

  1. Choose iDisk from the Go menu, then choose Other User’s Public Folder from the submenu.
  2. Type the member name eddieebeling in the Member Name field, then click Connect.
  3. If a password is required, type it in the Password field and click OK. The person’s Public folder opens on your desktop.

Using Windows Vista

  1. Click the Start menu and select Computer.
  2. In the window that opens, click “Map network drive” on the toolbar. If you do not see the toolbar, press the Alt key on your keyboard to display the File menu, and then click Tools and choose Map Network Drive.
  3. Type the following URL in the folder field: http://public.me.com/eddieebeling. You need to know the member’s public password in order to read from or write to the folder.
  4. Click Finish.

Using Windows XP

  1. Click the Start menu and select Network Connections. Click My Network Places from the sidebar.
  2. From the window that opens, select “Add a network place” to open the Add Network Place Wizard.
  3. On the next screen, select “Choose another network location.”
  4. When prompted for the URL for your iDisk, enter the following: http://public.me.com/eddieebeling. You need to know the member’s public password in order to read from or write to the folder.
  5. Name your connection, click Next, and then Finish.

WordPress iPhone app

How cool is this? I just installed the WordPress iPhone app and now I’ll be able to update my website from anywhere. I don’t know how often I will use these awesome features but I’m excited about the capabilities.

I’ll be able to create and edit content on my site, upload images directly from the camera app or my photo library, approve and reply to comments. Just another reason to love WordPress.

If you’re interested in setting up a WordPress blog I would be happy to help. Give me a call today and we can discuss adding a blog to your existing website.

Sd217 WebDesign is now Eddie Ebeling.com

What do you know, I’ve decided to transition Sd217 WebDesign or www.sd217.net into Eddie Ebeling.com.  I’ve been thinking a lot about re-branding my business and focusing more on the “freelance” or “consultant” aspect of what I do.  I’m done living the lie.  I’m not a business, I’m a freelancer.  ”We” and “Our” is not what’s really going on around here so why pretend that it is.  I already owned the domain Eddie Ebeling.com so why not use it?

You might ask, “why is a web designer using a blog site?”  Well the answer to that is quite simple… I wanted to.  No really, I love the WordPress platform and just wanted to learn more about it and the PHP programming language.  I hope to tweak and customize it as time goes on, as well as, build an archive of relative content.  I’ve installed a database and WordPress has the ability to register users and post comments so I hope you’ll take advantage of that as I write new posts.  Feel free to subscribe to the RSS feed by clicking the link at the bottom of the page.

Thanks,
Eddie Ebeling
